Q - 36. Describe the miserable plight of the people of Firozabad?

Answer-Firozabad is basically a bangle town. Every other family in Firozabad is engaged in making bangles. It is the centre of India's glass blowing industry where families have spent generation working illegally in glass furnaces. They have no money to do anything else. They have fallen into the vicious circle of the middleman, the police and politician. The bangle makers believe that bangle making is their god given lineage. They do not dare to change it. The fate of the bangle makers is so pathetic. Bangle making is not just confined to adults. About 20,000 children work in the glass furnaces with high. They have to work in dark dingy cells without any air and light. Their eyes are more adjusted to the dark in the cells then to the light outside. As a result they often end up losing their eyesight before they turn adults. They live in most pathetic surrounding. Little has moved with times in Firozabad. They can never send their children to school or build up proper house to live in. There is no leader among them, no one who could help them see thing different.


Q - 37. Describe Seemapuri.

Answer-Seemapuri is a colony, situated the periphery of Delhi. It is a settlement of more than 10,000 rag pickers who came from Bangladesh in 1971. In 1971 Seemapuri was a wilderness. It still is but it is no longer empty. They do have ration cards that enable them to vote and buy grains. Rag picking is the means of survival of the people of Seemapuri. Garbage to them is gold. It is their daily bread, a roof over their heads. There is no sign of any development there. Their house are made of mud. They have devoid of even basic facilities like sewage, drainage or running water. Seemapuri may be a place on the periphery of Delhi, yet it is miles away from Delhi, meta phorically. Looking at its living condition, it cannot be even imagined that it is part of the progressive Delhi, the capital of India.
